What do you think of The Prequel Trilogy? A general discussion.
Time

I hate how the Jedi are portrayed in the prequels. You get from Lucas in interviews and in audio commentary they are supposed to be the good guys, and really pure because they reject attachments and are selfless.

In the movies they come off as arrogant, insular and corrupt. Which is poor writing and directing, or he thinks these are good qualities.

Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. Awful, great cast but it just never comes together. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I really wanted to love it, but it’s actually worse than the 2016 movie because it is less funny.

They totally waste the original cast, the Spengler family is the only good aspect of it.

I loved Winston suiting up and Janine being a Ghostbuster but it wasn’t enough to save this cashgrab of a film. It reeked of corporate filmmaking chasing nostalgia.

I will never say the second one is bad again after seeing this.

I feel awful for younger actors because it isn’t their fault this was a turkey, it was the fault of the director. It’s probably a serviceable script, Jason Reitman should have directed it.

New Lucas interview 2: 'Insists Unaltered Versions Of The OT Will Never Be Released'

Lucas has to be misrembering things too. Jabba wasn’t designed as a slug until ROTJ when a bunch of different maquettes were presented to him. So the idea human Jabba was going to be a Slug stop motioned in, that can’t be correct.

If the scene was kept in 77 Declan would have been in the movie.

A bunch of stuff he said at Cannes is just malarkey. Complete and utter BS.

Star Wars 1997 Special Edition - French Edition
Time

There was this thread as well but they don’t respond to requests for the captures. https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Wars-Laserdisc-Preservations-See-1st-Post-for-Updates/id/15283/page/1

I can’t remember if I ever asked them directly I want to be completely fair, I asked in the thread for the Japan laserdiscs. Never sent a pm. It was easier for me to just purchase the discs and watch them on my old tv set.

Star Wars 1997 Special Edition - French Edition
Time

There are French Laserdiscs that are dubbed.

This is the only one on here i know about and i don’t know its availability.
https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/-French-Coffret-Trilogie-LD-to-DVD-transfer-Released/id/3633

There were a couple of other projects that captured the French PAL but only to marry it to the English dialog, Lee did one so did Moth3r.

These aren’t the 1997 cuts though.

I don’t see a preservation for the 1997, the boxed set was English with French subs, the single 1997 discs were French dub.

Several BR/DVD players can't access second layer
Time

Could also just be player incompatibility not all discs blu-ray or DVD work on all players. You should try it on another unit I don’t know what would happen if it doesn’t play on another device. Of course it has to be capable of playing NTSC region 1 discs you say the player you tried it on does.

Edit: I see you tried it on several players. That is so weird.

I have a cheap 40 dollar player that does all region it plays my Pal Return of the Jedi disc fine. But to be clear I haven’t played my US discs for a long time 2006 most likely, I hope they aren’t coasters.

If it is disc rot, I hope the seller will offer replacements or your money back.

I do like Qui-Gon, I like the living force and cosmic force, I have long defended enjoying Phantom Menace as a guilty pleasure, but I still don’t get the trade federation what Sidious plan even was, and midichlorians.

I guess I am dumb because other than really liking the podrace and duel of the fates, or Padme undercover as a handmaiden, the Gungan’s underwater city it doesn’t really make sense. I haven’t really sat down and watched II AND III yet in a long while so I can’t really comment on them except from memory.

I actually like aspects of the prequels but I’m just super critical of them. Because I feel like with more natural dialog and better acting they would be better. I’ve softened on them a great deal I don’t hate II AND III like I did, those old threads of prequel hate are cringy as hell, I can only apologize and say I was just a stupid kid. I won’t take back attacking Lucas over suppressing the original though, I think despite overly done vitriol he deserves to be called out.

I would like to actually read George Lucas pre Phantom Menace outline because based on what he said story wise it sounded better. Anakin secretly being Vader and the assassin working for Palpatine taking out the Jedi, that sounds absolutely brilliant.

If the Star Wars prequels were never made, which actor you would have imagined as the Pre-Prequels Anakin Skywalker?
Time

If Anakin was a pilot and cunning warrior, I picture someone like Han Solo, but also headstrong and foolhardy like Luke.

He sounds like someone who willingly joined up to fight in the Clone Wars and wasn’t a Jedi, that he was discovered to have such talents at an older age by Kenobi who was his friend?

An actor of that caliber in the 1990s who could have pulled off a Harrison Ford type, but someone with a darkness to them. Val was good as Madmartigan a Han Solo like character, I don’t know if he’s charismatic enough though.

He just wouldn’t have the smuggler or slacker thing Han had he be more about duty, loyalty and the cause. Someone bored by moisture farming, his brother Owen wanted him to join the family business, but he left to join the clone wars and never came home, became Darth Vader. Does Owen think he died or knows he is Vader, that much was always in doubt. I do accept he blamed Kenobi for Anakin never coming home from the wars.

<strong>The Acolyte</strong> (live action series set in The High Republic era) - a general discussion thread
Time

They have ruined enjoyment of things almost like they are deliberately trying to sabotage SW, and I mean fans not Kathy Kennedy. Do I like the Disney trilogy no, I did like Ahsoka and Obi-Wan. I like Andor and I like Mandalorian. Sure, quality varies. The only one I didn’t like is Book of Boba Fett. I haven’t seen Acolyte yet, I will admit I haven’t read any of the High Republic books but not because of their alleged wokeness, just because I like the old EU lore and its universe of characters more. I have read a comic book from IDW but not the longform novels, I have had Disney SW fans recommend them to me which I really don’t mind they can like what they like and they aren’t shills.

This isn’t a religion there aren’t true fans, if you are a fan of SW you are a fan regardless of who produced it.

Lucas isn’t a god he doesn’t need defending, the OT isn’t the bible. The prequel isn’t holy scripture.

I hate Star Wars becoming the Saga of Darth Vader rather than the Adventures of Luke Skywalker, I hate Luke being supplanted and replaced by Vader becoming the lead character. We are supposed to root for a wife killer and child murderer is that it?

Lucas totally lost his sense on the prequel, virgin birth, chosen one prophecy, rules on attachment, midichlorians, Whills, how can people take any of that at face value.

He destroyed Star Wars there was nothing left for Disney to destroy.

New Lucas interview 2: 'Insists Unaltered Versions Of The OT Will Never Be Released'

Lucas also bizarrely attacked Christopher Nolan for shooting on film. Doesn’t Steven Spielberg and JJ Abrams also shoot on film?

As for the Kennedy interview you wouldn’t be altering the films, the OT before the special edition existed for 20 years. With the exceptions with the A New Hope edition redone starfield, redone credits, different sound mixes and Empire having a different 70mm premier cut. But when people say original they mean before all the cgi shit was added, as Phil Tippet said.

Do any Star Trek 35mm scans exist?
Time

for Star Trek III, and IV. The HD 1080p versions that were large files with the optical print audio appear to have been taken down. I don’t have 'em, but i know the scans were done.

Before they were deleted i saw them online but i didn’t download them, the only reason i even found out about them was searching for a scan of Wrath of Khan, which to my knowledge doesn’t exist.

Which one do you like more? The Prequels or the Sequels? And why?
Time

I was coming around to appreciate them more then Lucas attacked the fans again, my hatred of the prequel stems towards his treatment of the originals and refusing to make a sequel trilogy at least in part.

If i could divorce SW from Lucas I’m picking the EU over both the Prequel and sequel, though i have a soft spot for Phantom Menace, and have liked aspects of Last Jedi but not the whole. My Star Wars world is Luke Skywalker his friends, those characters. Its not anchored to Disney or the Prequel.

New Lucas interview - the originals &quot;look terrible&quot;
Time

Haarspalter said:

That interview confirms one more time that the GOUT 2006 DVD was Lucas’ deliberate middlefinger in the face of the OT fans. And his stupid argument that it looked bad and that is why his numerous Special Edition iterations are better … what a terrible & dumb justification.

Also worth noting as he mentions ‘the director, or the writer or the filmmaker’ … he basically justifys his ‘clean-ups’ on EMPIRE and JEDI since he was not the director. As i remember in earlier interviews he always referred to the directors right.

Very much this. He promised Kersh final cut, the same thing he promised to Steven on Raiders as well. Okay Lucas directed the first film in 1977, but he didn’t direct Empire, or Jedi.

To be honest this entire i interview irks me, I’d argue the EU writers knew Star Wars better since he claims to be the only one who gets Star Wars. And of course he is shitting on Disney again despite having sold the company and recently backing Iger saying making magic is not for amateurs.
