Maybe if the mountains were more grey or a faded blue due to atmospheric haze - something to distinguish them from the ground below the AT-ATs so it doesn't look like they're right behind them.

The other day I caught an episode of the show 100 Places to See Before You Die and it was an episode about Alaska. At one point they flew a helicopter to the top of a giant glacier and while they were up there it was nothing but snow and mountains. The thing was though that the mountains looked like they were a short walking distance away but in fact were miles and miles away. The illusion was caused by the clear air and snow.

Hey Ady, I was just glancing at the excellent comparisons you have in the first post when I noticed something:

Were these just temporary starfields?

starfields is one thing that has never bothered me. the last thing you should be looking at in a space sequence is the stars. i never wanted to use generated starfields and instead wanted to use original starfields from the stare was movies . you will get repeated starfields because there is only so much area i can grab and combine to use to create a very hi res starfield that can be used for panning shots and fast movement. Its the same starfield i used for ANH:R and no one commented on that so i'm not too bothered by repeated star clusters. lol

Well now that you have your new HD camera, have you thought about going for real authenticity by recreating the stars just like they did for the films? I can't remember where I read/heard it but I remember one of the crew mentioning that all they did was punch holes into this black material (can't remember what it was specifically) with a pin and then backlit it. It would add a lot more authenticity to the stars as it would add a real twinkle to them when they're in motion. Think it would be worth a test to see how it looks? Imagine if it comes off real well and you could one-up the prequel effects crew with their digital starfields.

SAVE LANDO!!!!
Time

Has anyone actually gone back through the various articles released by Lucas over the years regarding ROTJ? As far as  I can remember, and I'll try to find an article to back it up, but Lando was slated to die in the DS battle whilst trying to escape. This is the reason why Han believes he won't see the Falcon again.

The original scene was to run as it does in the movie, but rather than shooting out of the fire like a phoenix, the flames engulf the Falcon killing the intrepid heroes. There was supposed to be a brief line with Lando commenting on how Han was not going to be happy right before the final explosion...

It looks like GL possibly didn't want a downbeat ending to his trilogy to contrast with the redemption of Anakin Skywalker, so 'saved' Lando and created his teddybear ending instead.

Like I said, I'll try to find an article backing this up, but it's not a new idea and certainly isn't Ady doing a GL for the sake of a big change.

Nah, that was a popular Star Wars urban (galactic?) legend that was disapproved on starwars.com. I'd try and find the article but I need to go to bed.

Boards such as the the Replica Prop Forum http://www.therpf.com/ and the Replica Prop Board http://theukpropparty.yuku.com/ have guys making Studio Quality Miniatures of Star Wars models and Costumes etc... that would be perfect for some of the shots, there are even Stop Motion Replicas of the Taun Taun and the AT-ST getting built.

Although it would be great to have the guys from this forum on board the problem would be filming the models. I can't see, and i certainly wouldn't want to risk anyone lending me these models in order to film them. too many risks of damage in transit involved for me to take the risk

True but when the time comes to start building the models they can help you make sure everything is screen accurate and where to go to get materials.

Speaking of the END of EMPIRE, this shot always bugged me.  The Falcon leaves and zips off... to where again?  The galaxy is THAT way (pointing down, as they fly upwards).

That's not the galaxy it's like a star formation or cluster inside of the galaxy.

Looking at those snow shots at the bottom I realized that for some reason those are the two shots where I actually kind of prefer the whole "grey sky" look.  While the sun and clear sky makes the imperial's attack seem much more impressive, I kind of like the dreary sky at the end of the battle.  It just fits in my mind.

I agree, it just feels right.

I noticed that Yoda only blinks 3 times. Any chance on adding one or two more? There was some parts of the scene where I think he goes a bit long.

I don't know. Yoda's pretty intense. Watch Michael Caine act... the man never blinks.

I think the number of eye blinks is perfect, no offense to Ady but I thought the cantina aliens blinked a little too often in ANH. It was nice to see it handled so subtley for Yoda.

Hey Ady, I know you've done some work to try and help improve the realism of the Tauntauns. The other day I stumbled upon this video and was really impressed with the fluidity of his work. I decided to look around and found a video that explains some of his process. Thought you might be interested. =)

Try double checking. That's pathetic if it doesn't include the chamber.

It doesn't include it. And one is for sure its not near the bridge.

The Wookieepedia entry for the Executor has an interesting tidbit, right above where it says Hoth to Endor there's a picture that's captioned:

"The entrance to Darth Vader's meditation chamber, visible from the command salon."

Here's the picture

Anyone notice that in Ep 14, as we see Ahsoka's shadow slicing up a pair of droids, her lightsaber also casts a shadow? That can't be right...

I noticed that too and cringed.  That doesn't help my "how can something made of light cast a shadow?" argument.

"When Ahsoka cuts down droids inside the Separatist base, she is shown in silhouette and her lightsaber casts a shadow. Contrary to online debate, there's nothing wrong with this. Lightsabers do indeed cast shadows; anything that is opaque does. Try it with a fluorescent light tube."

Great to hear from you Ady. I just checked out the new slug clip. Everything looks great, except I noticed one thing. In the original film the foreground asteroids all have a natural spin on their axis but in the newly incorporated field the asteroids spin end over end. I'm hoping you'll take the time to recomposite the original asteroids as the new ones feel distinctly less real and more artificial. Perhaps if that would be too time consuming you could film new replacements.
