Koopa Troopa Productions restoration projects (0 releases)
Time

Do you know, I think I just realized that myself. At any rate, it looks like I’ll have to do my best with what I can access, even if it means I have to cut out numerous duplicate frames. Here’s hoping the Shout! DVD masters don’t have that dreaded ghosting… it’s why I’m using French DVD masters for my planned restoration of Inspector Gadget, by the way, those look rather clean as far as episode titles are concerned, plus none of that damned ghosting that’s every Saturday morning cartoon restorer/preserver’s worst nightmare.

Beauty and the Beast - 35mm "Help Needed" (a WIP)
Time

Once the colors are all restored, I intend to use an LUT derived from that to restore the 3D version of Beauty and the Beast to the proper colors (which the 3D version appears to be closest to anyway as far as post-2000 releases are concerned) and shadings as part of my planned Gold Standard Collection. And the sooner a 3D version of Tangled Ever After surfaces, or can be restored, to go with that, the better.

(The planned GSC edition of Beauty and the Beast, by the way, will restore the original Disney logo and credits, albeit with 3D credits added in for the 3D version; as such, the 2D and 3D versions will use different closing credits via seamless branching, or else as close to it as I can manage.)

KTP sublabels
Gold Standard Collection (movies the way they were meant to be seen, and then some)
The Best of the Worst (because one moviegoer’s trash is another moviegoer’s treasure)
The Marvelous Movies of Oz (cinematic gold rush down under)
Carry On PBS (Britcoms if they had dedicated PBS masters, plus any movies of said Britcoms)
Enhanced Speed (for HFR-ified and HFR-restored movies)
Classic Performances (for operas, ballets, and other forms of classical music)

Some people have said I plan way too far ahead. Maybe that’s true. But at any rate, I certainly see the potential in restoring and preserving even those movies no one has even heard of, let alone feels worth restoring (which is what The Best of the Worst is for, anyway). I have in my arsenal Davinci Resolve, GIMP, multiAVCHD, DVD Styler, Blender, Audacity, FFMPEG, and plenty of other tools that have yet to be identified to assist me in my quest to assist in the restoration and preservation of media, and I hope to have human input as well. For film-based projects, I plan to release them only in 24 frames per second, except when making HFR versions, in which case they’ll generally be 60 frames per second (with the sole exceptions of films originally made in HFR, which will be released only in their original frame rates whenever and as possible), and for video-based projects, I plan to do them only in 60 frames per second for NTSC territories, and 50 frames per second for PAL territories. My projects also generally aim to restore the original logos.

All of the above sublabels will have their own threads.

When I start a thread on any of the above individual projects, I will add an (ACTIVE) tag next to its name. When a project is ready, I will add a (RELEASED) tag next to its name.

Info Thread: 3D Movies Preservation
Time

I’d like to see full HD 3D restorations of Spacehunter and Metalstorm (both of which I have on '80s VHS cassettes, respectively using the right and left eyes). I’d especially love to see Spacehunter in 3D without those annoying Japanese subtitles (they’re not annoying per se, it’s the hardcoding that annoys me).

Star Wars Prequels 35mm 4K Filmized Editions by Emanswfan (a WIP)

Do you think you can do this treatment to the other eye of each of the 3D versions if and when you can get your hands on them? (And yes, believe it or not, all three of the prequels have indeed been converted. No word on when, let alone if, we’ll get 3D versions for the original trilogy yet, though I hope the original versions are the ones that get converted.)

Info: My Logo Preservation Project
Time

Hello. I am Charles Threepio, human-logo enthusiast relations.

I wish to bring up the topic of logo preservation. All too often, production and distribution logos are deleted from current prints of films (a phenomenon logo enthusiasts like to call “plastering”), resulting in the loss of such great logos as Carolco’s “Space Streaks” logo (found on early prints of “Rambo II” and “Angel Heart”), the Warner Bros. “Big W” logo from the '70s, and UA’s pre-1981 logos. Logos are works of art, too. I consider it a matter of great importance to the logo community that more old prints of more older films are found which preserve those old logos and others before it’s too late. Especially the sooner we find an original theatrical print of “Rambo II” or “Angel Heart” with the original Carolco logo, the better. And as mentioned earlier, that’s not the only one, either.

(Oh, and an original theatrical print of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” as distributed by Paramount would be nice, too, as far as logo preservation is concerned.)

Thank you for listening to this summary of my defense of production and distribution logos. I know there’s more to the logo story than that, but I’d be here all night if I were to recount the whole thing.
